Dear Guest, Welcome to the Naval Lodge website. We have established this site to share our Lodge with fellow Freemasons as well as those who are simply curious. Please take a few moments to sign our Guestbook before you leave. ![]() Naval Lodge No. 4 was chartered May 14, 1805 and currently meets in The Naval Lodge Building which was constructed in 1895. The Naval Lodge Building is located on Capitol Hill and remains as the oldest Masonic structure in the nation's capital still in active use. While Naval Lodge has had Presidents, Senators, and Congressmen join us at 330 Pennsylvania Avenue SE such rank in the “profane” world carries no weight in lodge and all men meet on "the level" as brothers. Naval Lodge does not solicit new members. Any individual interested in membership must take the first step and express interest. Nor is acceptance automatic. Although freemasonry is secular and multi-denominational, all candidates for membership must declare a belief in a Supreme Being. Secondly, all candidates must be of demonstrable "good character". Applicants must have two sponsors and will be screened by a committee of three, following which a vote will be taken by members of the Lodge in closed session—with each member having the right to cast a veto (literally, a "black ball" procedure). Successful applicants will be warmly welcomed and promptly initiated, following which they will immediately be entitled to participate in most Lodge activities. They will be assigned a mentor who will help guide them through the remaining steps—including literally being "given the third degree"—requisite for full Lodge membership. **NEW - Voice of Freemasonry Magazine - "Masons on the Hill" Naval Lodge No. 4 on National Public Radio The Naval Lodge Brochure
