5th Annual - Thanksgiving Moment of Silence

Maybe: 1Attending: 6Washington Monument
November 22, 2018 6:45AM

We invite all Brethren, family, friends, and guests to join us for a 2 minute and 29 second moment of silence around the Washington Monument at sunrise (6:59am) on Thanksgiving morning. Since the Washington Monument is currently fenced off, we will meet on the east side of the fence facing the Capitol Building. This moment of silence is to thank the Grand Architect for what we have and this country.

This commemorates the 229th anniversary of Brother George Washington taking his oath of office. In a 1789 proclamation, Brother Washington called on the people of the United States to acknowledge God for affording them "an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness" by observing a day of thanksgiving. Devoting a day to "public thanksgiving and prayer," as Washington called it, became a yearly tradition in many communities.

We will meet at the Washington Monument at 6:45am. DC Grand Lodge has authorized all masons to wear their Masonic dress and regalia.
