Join Naval Lodge for a day at the races!

On Sat, May 17th Naval Lodge will be hosting a pintwood derby to raise money to support camperships for local scouts.

What is a pintwood derby? A pinewood derby for adults! For those unfamiliar, pinewood derbies are a time honored tradition in cub scouts where the scouts and their parents build and decorate wooden cars from kits and then race them on a sloped track. The difference is that this race is for the adults because why let the kids have all the fun?

Join us for a day of racing, company and good brews all for a great cause. 

Racing tickets are $50 and include 

• Pinewood derby car kit
• Commemorative pint glass
• $25 direct donation

*A $25 donation is suggested for non-racing participants as well

There will be trophies and prizes for the top 3 racers and special awards for decoration. The grand prize is a private tour and tasting at Port City Brewery for 10 people! 

You do not have to be present to win and can pre-submit your car.

If you have never built a pinewood derby car before, don't worry; we'll be setting up a group build day in the spring to help! Details TBD.

Race kits can be picked up at Naval Lodge Events or dropoff/pick-up may be able to be arranged by appointment.

Car build rules are limited from traditional fashion to those necessary to not damage the track and can be found below

1. Width shall not exceed 2-3/4 inches.
2. Length shall not exceed 7 inches.
3. Weight shall not exceed 5 ounces.
4. No lubricating oil may be used. Axles may be lubricated with powdered graphite or silicone.
